Liam Booth Partners With VQ Solutions to Give Apprenticeship Talk at Harrogate Grammar School
Jul 14, 2021

Apprenticeships are something we value highly here at Cubic Interactive. Our Customer Experience Manager, Liam Booth, visited Harrogate Grammar School recently to explain the benefits to their Sixth-Form students.

Our Customer Experience Manager, Liam Booth, recently partnered up with our apprenticeship training provider, VQ Solutions, to speak to Sixth-Form students at Harrogate Grammar School about the value of apprenticeships.

Alongside Christy Slater and Luke Duncan from VQ Solutions, Liam and Zach Bateman from our Development team spoke to Year 12 students about the misconceptions of apprenticeships, the types of courses available, applying for apprenticeships, and all of the benefits apprenticeships bring with them; such as learning on the job, getting paid, no student debt, recognised qualifications at the end of the program, and, for most people, a great first step into a long-term career.

They also discussed that apprenticeships aren’t just for school leavers; as Liam explained, “I myself completed an apprenticeship about two years ago in Leadership and Management because I wanted to become a better leader.”

Liam described the event as “A really informative session.” He went on to say, “We hope the students found it useful and can see that apprenticeships are a fantastic alternative to University.”

Who are VQ Solutions?

VQ Solutions are a nationwide apprenticeship training provider with a base in Harrogate. They help employers with all aspects of apprenticeships; advice, recruitment, and the delivery of the training courses. They provide a wide variety of courses, including IT, Data Cabling, HR, Leadership and Management, and Digital Marketing.

What can apprentices do at Cubic Interactive? Which roles and which qualifications?

We have mainly taken on apprentices in Support at Cubic Interactive, but more recently we have taken on a Graduate who will be completing an Operational Management apprenticeship.

Our apprentices learn all about our products, how to support them, how our clients operate, and lots of Customer Service skills. We also now offer the Digital Support Technician apprenticeship to our Support apprentices, who can then go on to further qualifications; like our Business Intelligence Developer, Zach Bateman, did with data analysis.

Graduates can join us at a higher level and use an apprenticeship to further their skills and learning.

Are most offered jobs afterwards?

All of our apprentices have been offered permanent roles, and all have stayed with us for at least four years. We spend a huge amount of time and energy training our apprentices over the duration of their apprenticeship and we want them to carve out long and successful careers at the company as we continue to grow rapidly.

We offer our apprentices the chance to try out lots of different skills and look at different areas of the business that they think they might want to move into on completion of their course. As previously mentioned, Zach moved into Business Intelligence Development, whereas one of our other former apprentices, Isaac Edwards, is now a Project Manager, and another, Tom Knibbs, is a Software Developer. They all began in Support as apprentices.

Are there any apprenticeship positions available now?

We are pleased to say that we have now filled both apprenticeship positions we had open in Support this year. Sam has just joined us after completing his A-Levels at Harrogate Grammar, and Junjie will be joining us in August after completing an AAT Level 3 Course at College.

If you would be interested in joining us next year or knowing more about our apprenticeship opportunities, please email liam.booth@cubic-interactive.com to find out more.
